BARCLAYCARD WORLD FREERUN CHAMPIONSHIPS
In total, a collective of 23 athletes from 18 different countries went head to head to compete at the Barclaycard World Freerun Championships on Weds the 3rd of Sept, tackling a specially-designed course that enabled them to showcase the energy and complexity of the sport. Each athlete performed to his own individual soundtrack and was judged on his athletic skill, creativity and technical ability by his fellow competitors. The event started off with Mexican participant, Jorge \'Sarge\' Romero failing to make an ambitious underbar to precision jump 20ft up, by under-shooting it and crashing heavily, forcing him out of the competition. Luckily, outside of a trip to the hospital and a bruised ego, he was fine. We have his permission to show this video to highlight the danger of the sport. Please do not try this as home and note that the contestants are fully trained freerunners.
The discipline of Freerun now has an official world champion in the form of Gabriel \'Jaywalker\' Nunez (USA). 2nd place went to Tim \'Livewire\' Shieff (UK) and 3rd to Ben \'Jenx\' Jenkin (UK). Footage of the winner and runner up will be shown on Sky -- date and time coming soon.
Overall the skill level and general feeling of unity amongst all the competitors, was a sight to behold. The event ended up being an outstanding success and has been winning rave reviews from media sources worldwide. Dan Mathieson, Head of Sponsorship at Barclaycard, the title sponsor of the World Freerun Championships said: "Freerunning is an amazing sport and some of the moves executed by the top performers are truly breathtaking. Championship organisers, World Freerun Ents share a similarly upbeat view of Barclaycard\'s involvement. "World-class brands have been getting more and more into the freerun thing" says Championship spokesman and Urban Freeflow supremo, Ez, "but we always make sure that we are comfortable with any commercial tie-ups and that they make sense for the freerun lifestyle. The clincher for us here is that Barclaycard\'s global ambitions for the sport match our own."

The music over the videos is from Star Chamber\'s who\'s unique style of electronic indie-rock has been turning many a head recently. With a sell out show at The Fly and a slew of high profile gigs under their belts including Z008 Festival and Radio 1 Big Weekend Fringe Festival, 2008 is looking very much like Star Chamber\'s year. They have been recording 2 new tracks this summer with prestigious producer Mark Plati (David Bowie, The Cure, Prince) as well as composing music for short films behind the scenes whilst writing songs for other artists.
